Important Assessment Information

Fremont Township property owners have received their property assessment notices in the mail. It’s important for taxpayers to read, understand and check this notice for accuracy as it contains important information about your property. The county has implemented a new system making this an important opportunity to make sure that your property information is factual. The Fremont Township published date is September 19th, and you only have 30 days from that date to appeal your assessment with Lake County. If you feel your property is incorrectly assessed or if you find errors please contact the Fremont Township Assessor at 847 223-2846. Assessor, Joe Herchenbach encourages you to bring your evidence to the office before hiring an attorney to appeal. Many people pay an attorney and don’t need to, as most issues can be addressed at the Fremont Township Assessor’s Office. To help taxpayers evaluate their property assessment notice, the Chief County Assessment Office is hosting tax assessment help center sessions. No appointment is necessary.  New for 2019 – Appeals Must Be Filed ElectronicallyProperty owners can appeal their assessment on their own through the Lake County Board of Review. No attorney is required for a residential appeal. Appeals can be done in a few minutes by using the new SmartFile E-Filing Portal.Prior to filing a formal appeal to the Board of Review, property owners should contact their local township assessor’s office to discuss their concerns. There is a 30-day deadline from the date of publication to file an assessment appeal.
