(Community Emergency Response Team)
The Fremont Township Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program was founded in 2006, has 30+ trained and active volunteers with a strong commitment to serving our local communities, and is supported and funded by Fremont Township.
Fremont Township CERT educates residents of Fremont Township about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our area, trains residents in basic disaster response skills to do the greatest good for the greatest amount of people, and provides support to local emergency response agencies.
New members complete 30 hours of standardized classroom and hands-on training before joining the team. Team members refresh and grow their skills and capabilities through regular training on a variety of emergency services topics. Recent examples include Advanced First Aid, in field exercises and radio use, navigation, leadership, search and rescue, fire suppression, damage assessment, traffic control, and more.
The Fremont Township CERT training program is free and is a nationally recognized program that consists of six 2 1/2 hour sessions held in the evening over a period of six weeks. You need to be at least 16 years old to participate as the teaching techniques are geared toward adult learners. Priority registration will be given to those who live and/or work in Fremont Township Training consists of covering Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety and Utility Control.
